The Inspiring Strings Project

Investing in the social, emotional, and curricular development of our youth to create critical-thinking, community-minded leaders of tomorrow.

In partnership with the Beautiful Music Violin Shop, the MAPAA Inspiring Strings Project offers local Lawrence-based elementary schools (Grades 3-5) free group instrumental classes, while providing the instruments, instruction, music, accessories, and performance opportunities free of charge. Currently we serve both Woodlawn Elementary and New York Elementary School.

This program not only teaches musical concepts, but also a range of social and emotional communication skills and invaluable lessons on perseverance and the product of hard work. It strengthens math and ELA skills while providing an opportunity for broadening the range of cultural and historical practices. Being exposed to ensemble music at a younger age will get children exposure to possible future opportunities in the arts that might never be afforded to them otherwise. It will also help their future middle school ensembles achieve a higher level of success having already had several years of instruction.
